The course provides theoretical and practical training in line with the requirements of the Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (TITCK) “Guideline on the Safety Assessment of Cosmetic Products and Safety Assessors”.

• Introduction to cosmetic products and general information
• Fundamental concepts in safety assessment (hazard, risk, risk perception and risk assessment, etc.)
• Potential toxic effects of cosmetic products
• Skin irritation and corrosion
• Eye irritation
• Skin sensitization
• Phototoxicity
• Systemic toxicity of cosmetic products
• Safety assessment of products for children under three years of age
• Overview of cosmetic product packaging and its impact on product safety
• Current validated alternative methods for the safety assessment of cosmetic products and their ingredients and their applications
• Undesirable effects and serious undesirable effects of cosmetic products, and cosmetovigilance
• Review of the Cosmetic Product Safety Report and all its sections
• Assessment of the toxicological profiles of substances in the formulation
• Calculation and evaluation of the margin of safety (MoS), including calculation of the A value, SED and MoS: Group work and practical exercises
